Abbasid: Harun al-Rashid (786-809), silver dirham (2.84g), Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad) mint, AH 189 (804-805 CE). A very interesting case in which an Abbasid dirham dated AH 189 (from the same year) was used as the host coin to strike this piece, rather than the usual blank flan. Traces of the earlier obverse date formula are visible on the reverse, while remnants of the earlier reverse marginal legends can be seen on the obverse. Common date but very unusual occurrence.
