$460.00

Arab Sasanian: 'Uthman ibn 'Affan (644-656), silver dirham (3.79g), NAL (Narmashir) mint, yazdigerd era year 20 (AH 31 / 651-652 CE). Arab-Sasanian series, anonymous type struck in the name of Yazdigerd. This is the first definitive coin in Islamic history, imitating the drachmas of the last Sasanian king Yazdigerd III with the addition of the Arabic "jayyid" [Good] in the fourth marginal quadrant on the obverse, indicating good metal quality or the acceptance for circulation. This type with "jayyid" is far rarer than the "bismillah" type dated the same year. Dated during the reign of the Rashidun caliph and companion 'Uthman ibn 'Affan.
