Umayyad of Spain, Hisham II, silver dirham, "al-Alus" (al-Andalus) mint, AH 389, citing 'Amir (Almanzor) and Muhammad, engraving error in mint name
Umayyad of Spain: Hisham II (976-1009), silver dirham (3.36g), "al-Alus" (al-Andalus) mint, AH 389 (998-999 CE). Citing 'Amir (Almanzor) and Muhammad. Error in mint name, engraved as al-Alus, disregarding the "nun" and "dal" letters in the middle, likely due to constrained space, which is extremely unusual as usually the engraver would only shorten the date and not the mint name. Attractive.
